Level 3 is done

Last night I finished level 3. It introduces a new NPC, a spider! I am really happy how the spider came out, but I definitely spent 6+ hours trying to animate it. That probably ate way too much time.... I really wanted something to be hard and unnerving in the game. The first two levels are too easy, and they are not that much fun after testing them way too many times.

There is no doubt now that I fubared my schedule. With only 16 hours left I don't believe I will get to my goal of 5 levels. So I plan to use the remaining time for quality of live improvements. I need to clean up the UI, add background music, and remove the icons for picking up and putting down eggs and larva (actions that did not make it into the end game.)

If I some how complete the quality of life updates, I may create 2 more levels using only assets I already have.

  • Level Zero, using only the player and a droplet of water. I can use this as the tutorial on how to move, and have it be the only level where the player begins frozen.
  • Level 4, using only the player and Ant NPCs. I'll call it 'All Out War' or something. It would consist of the Ant NPCs split into two factions and have them fight to the death.
